EUROSOIL2025 actively promotes the dissemination of scientific knowledge generated during the congress, encouraging the publication of presented works in different platforms and formats including high-impact journals in the field of soil science. To maximize the visibility and impact of these contributions, we have soordinated with renowned scientific publishers to provide participants with a rigorous and prestigious platform to share their latest research, fostering the exchange of ideas, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the advancement of knowledge in key areas such as soil health, sustainability, pollution, biodiversity, and natural resource management. Below you will find details of the available publication options, along with submission guidelines and relevant deadlines.

EUROSOIL PUBLICATIONS

European Journal of Soil Science

The European Journal of Soil Science (EJSS) is an international journal that publishes outstanding papers in soil science that advance the theoretical and mechanistic understanding of physical, chemical and biological processes and their interactions in soils acting from molecular to continental scales in natural and managed environments, as well as descriptions of data sets that contribute to these goals.

EUROSOIL, the flagship event of the European Confederation of Soil Science Societies (ECSSS), is Europe’s premier platform for soil science knowledge exchange. Held every four years, the 2025 edition in Seville (September 8-12) will bring together leading researchers, industry experts, and policymakers to showcase cutting-edge innovations, tackle urgent soil challenges, and shape sustainable solutions.

This year’s program integrates the Iberian Congress of Soil Sciences (CICS) and the 5th EU-Soil Observatory Stakeholders Forum, alongside targeted workshops and a technology exhibition—reinforcing EUROSOIL’s role as a hub for innovation and collaboration in soil science.

By bridging science, industry, and society, EUROSOIL drives scientific progress to share cutting-edge research, debate critical soil challenges, and accelerate innovation in pursuing its mission: to expand global soil knowledge, spur action, and secure the future of our planet’s vital soils.

“Soil Management for Society”, a special collection of the Soil Use and Management journal

Soil use and management (SUM) play a crucial role in addressing societal needs, community resilience, climate change mitigation, environmental quality, food security, and sustainable development goals, including climate change adaptation.

Soil Use and Management publishes novel research in soil science or soil-focused research within agricultural science, environmental science, and policy studies. SUM manuscripts should present new and significant information and insight on the influence of natural and anthropogenic processes on the function, productivity, health, and sustainability of managed soil systems.

For the Eurosoil 2025 aligned special collection, “Soil Management for Society”, the editors are especially interested in reports that employ research results to support the development of evidence-based policies and regulatory recommendations. This includes:

  • Research that integrate the development of classic and novel scientific concepts and theories to validate current and proposed practical recommendations and policy frameworks essential for driving sustainable soil management.
  • Land use impact assessments through multi- and inter-disciplinary soil-centric networks, to address soil health, environmental protection and food production.
  • Interdisciplinary efforts that include the role of soil use and management in addressing societal needs, resilience through smart, soil-centric climate change mitigation and adaptation
  • Case studies that address soils’ multifunctional variability across geographic, regulatory, and ecosystem locations.
For pre-submission inquiries please contact Adrian Unc at aunc@mun.ca, use “Eurosoil-Soil Management for Society” in the subject line. There will be a 4 months, post conference, deadline.

Frontiers in Soil Science

A special Issue in Topical Collection EUROSOIL25 "Healthy Soils, Healthy Planet: Advancing Soil Science for Protection and Sustainability" is now open (Manuscript Summary Submission Deadline 30 November 2025 | Manuscript Submission Deadline 31 March 2026).

Frontiers in Soil Science provides a forum for research excellence in all aspects of soil science. Indexed in the DOAJ, Scopus and Web of Science (ESCI), the journal publishes articles on agriculture, biofuel, and forest production systems, but also those associated with natural ecosystems from all latitudes. The journal invites article submissions in soil chemistry, physics, and biology, as well as pedology and soil classification and characterization. Submissions that improve our fundamental mechanistic understanding of soil and submissions covering applied aspects of soil science are welcome. Novel methods and techniques for characterizing soils will also be considered, ranging from field and laboratory experimental approaches through to bioinformatic, statistical and advanced data analysis techniques. The editors are especially interested in manuscripts covering plant-soil-microbial interactions, soil informatics or the mathematical modelling of soil processes. Submissions that advance the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 15: life on land; and SDG 2: zero hunger, are also welcome.

Agronomy

A special Issue is under preparation (full details will be released soon)

Agronomy is an international and cross-disciplinary scholarly journal on agronomy and agroecology. It publishes reviews, regular research papers, communications and short notes, and there is no restriction on the maximum length of the papers. Our aim is to encourage scientists to publish their experimental and theoretical research in as much detail as possible. Full experimental and/or methodical details must be provided for research articles. There are, in addition, unique features of this journal: manuscripts regarding research proposals and research ideas will be particularly welcomed; computed data or files regarding the full details of the experimental procedure, if unable to be published in a normal way, can be deposited as supplementary material; we also accept manuscripts communicating to a broader audience with regard to research projects financed with public funds.

EUROSOIL PRIZES & AWARDS

1st Scientific award Prof. Francisco J. GONZÁLEZ-VILA

The award recognize the best contribution in the field of Soil Organic Geochemistry presented at the EUROSOIL2025 Congress, in the form of an oral or poster presentaton. This award is promoted by the Organic Matter in Soils and Sediments Group (MOSS) of IRNAS-CSIC.

This award pays tribute to Professor Francisco J. González Vila, a pioneer and international reference in the study of organic geochemical markers of environmental changes in soils. He was responsible for the development and implementation of tools such as analytical pyrolysis and solid-state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance for the study of organic matter in soils and sediments.

An international jury of scientists of recognised international prestige evaluated the work in terms of:

  • Relevance
  • Novelty
  • Scientific quality
  • Clarity

The winner was:

Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry, Jena, Germany

The winning author team was announded at EUROSOIL 2025 Clossing Ceremony. and received a commemorative decorative item and a certificate of recognition.

EUROSOIL case study writing competition

EUROSOIL and CABI was pleased to announce a case study writing competition for delegates of EUROSOIL 2025  inviting submissions that showcase real-world applications of soil science research and practice.

About Soil Science Cases

Soil Science Cases is part of CABI’s growing collection of practical case studies, offering insight into real-world applications of soil science research. It encompasses the areas of: soil formation, soil physics, soil chemistry, soil biology, soil fertility, soil conservation and management, soil and environmental quality, soil hydrology and soil mineralogy. Targeted to lecturers and trainers, practitioners, industry professionals and students, Soil Science Cases represents a range of voices in each field, including practitioners, public stakeholders, academics, teachers and students. Soil Science Cases emphasises the teaching value of the experiences and discoveries of authors in novel sets of circumstances. There are no prerequisites of a particular level of education or extensive publication history. This means that case studies make excellent publication opportunities for early-career researchers or practitioners, as well as graduate students. Case studies are peer-reviewed to ensure scientific integrity, and do not need to consist of original research.

The competition

The aim of this competition is to encourage new voices in the field, and it is open to anyone practicing in soil science in some capacity.

The winning case study was decided by a judging panel of Soil Science Cases editorial team members. All case studies were evaluated by the panel, with a focus on:

  • Educational value and clarity
  • Innovation in approach or application
  • Relevance to current soil science challenges
